Line of severe storms pummels Wisconsin

Utility crews worked to restore power to around 9000 customers in the Ripon area after the city was hit around midnight on July 29 by a line of severe thunderstorms, which included strong straight-line winds.

Crop insurance agents were busy on Thursday, July 29 after a strong line of thunderstorms downed trees, powerlines and crops in the Ripon area.

Police asked residents to stay inside Thursday morning after severe thunderstorms hit the town overnight and knocked down trees and power lines. The storms rolled in around midnight and cut out power city-wide, affecting 9,000 people, according to Ripon police.

Straight-line winds in excess of 50 mph battered cornfields across Wisconsin from Wausau down to Waukesha on July 28-29.
