MANITOWOC – About six months after opening, Moore’s Irish Pub, 811 Jay St., is expanding its menu to offer more meal options.

“Since we have opened our doors last fall, we’ve been met with amazing support from our community,” owner Tim Moore said. “We thank you for your support and we have certainly learned a lot in this time. We've listened to your feedback and our new menu is being rolled out with newly improved items and plenty of new additions.”

New items include: portobello mushroom fries, French dip, BLT, crispy chicken sandwich and a vegetarian portobello wrap.

The pub also serves fish and chips seven days a week, as well as offers fish specials on weekends.

Since it first opened its doors, the new Irish pub in the city’s downtown is going down well, especially the Guinness and Smithwick’s Irish Ale.

“We’ve been swamped,” Moore told Streetwise at the time. He’s now up to full speed at the pub, which serves food you might find at an Irish pub, as well as 12 taps of beer, including four Irish brews — Guinness, Smithwick’s, Harp and Murphy’s Irish Stout.

“I’ve been surprised and happy about how busy it’s been,” Moore said. “Especially Wednesdays. I didn’t know people went out so much on Wednesdays.”

This is a new experience for Moore, who has never owned a bar or restaurant and never even so much as worked at a fast-food joint. It’s fair to say he’s off to a pretty good start.

In other Lakeshore business news this week, Americollect has been named a “Best Call Center to Work For” by insideARM for the 10th year in a row. The Manitowoc call center ranked No. 3 in the nation for large companies, with 150 or more workers.

“Ten consecutive years is powerful evidence that Americollect is a great place to work,” CEO Kenlyn Gretz said in a written statement. “I truly believe that a company that values culture attracts similar-minded people to work together.”

The award recognizes excellence among call centers in customer care, collections and outsourcing. insideARM is a trade publication for the accounts receivable management industry.

Companies from across the U.S. participated in a two-part survey to determine award winners. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices and demographics. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration, survey and analysis process and determined the final rankings.

Americollect partners with health care systems nationwide in two divisions: one serving as a hospital’s customer service team, and the other as a health care collection agency.  The company’s motto is to “to provide a better patient experience by being ridiculously nice.”

On a sadder note, after nearly 20 years, Milwaukee PC has closed its doors in downtown Manitowoc.

The store, 109 N. Eighth St., provided computers, software, parts and network sales and service.

Milwaukee PC Computers in downtown Manitowoc is now closed.

Milwaukee PC closed its Manitowoc shop in mid-May, the only store to close. Tom Canzoneri, operations manager for the company, said with a number of major employers in Manitowoc either going out of business or moving out of the area, the company made the decision to close the local store.

“It was not an easy decision to make,” Canzoneri told Streetwise. “We were a part of the community for a long time. We dwelled on it for quite a while, before making the decision. But it made business sense for us to leave.”

Manitowoc-area Milwaukee PC customers are asked to visit stores in Sheboygan or Appleton.

The company was established in southeastern Wisconsin in 1988 and has stores mostly in the eastern portion of the state, including Appleton, Fond du Lac, Greenfield, Kenosha, Menomonee Falls, Mequon, Milwaukee, Oconomowoc, Oshkosh, Racine, Sheboygan, Shorewood, Stevens Point, Waukesha and West Bend.
