Eight restaurants from across the state have made it into the finals of the Wisconsin Beef Council's Best Burger Contest.

Out of the thousands of nominations submitted last month by burger lovers, the Beef Council has named the Elite Eight. These highly regarded burger joints can be found along the banks of the Wisconsin River, in sparsely populated burgs to the bustling streets of Milwaukee.

While the NCAA March Madness contenders have been winnowed down from the Elite Eight to the eventual champions, a "secret panel of judges" will fan out across the state, stopping in at each establishment to sample the nominees and crown a winner on May 1.

In the meantime, why not visit one of the restaurants and decide for yourself which burger deserves to be named the champion?
